Boman Irani
Late-bloomer character lead; the face of Virus Sahastrabuddhe in 3 Idiots.
Boman Irani is an Indian actor who came to cinema late. After years as a photographer and theatre performer, he was in his forties when Rajkumar Hirani cast him as Dr. Asthana in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003). He went on to anchor Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Don, 3 Idiots (as Principal Virus), PK, Happy New Year, and Sanju - returning to Hirani's filmography across most of its major titles.
His filmography also includes international projects and a sustained theatre practice through Mahesh Dattani and Rahul da Cunha productions. He made his directorial debut with The Mehta Boys (2025).
Irani's public talks lean on his late-start trajectory - running a family wafer business, working as a photographer, and making the shift into acting in middle age. He is a popular speaker on reinvention and second careers.
