Anupam Kher is one of Indian cinema's most prolific actors, with credits across Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, and international films including Bend It Like Beckham and Silver Linings Playbook. His debut in Saaransh (1984) established him as a character lead; he has since played everything from comic sidekicks to principled patriarchs.
Beyond acting he founded Actor Prepares, a Mumbai-based acting school, and has written multiple bestselling memoirs including Lessons Life Taught Me, Unknowingly. He served as chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India and of the Central Board of Film Certification. He has been awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
